A rare mountain treasure, rooted in the heart of Lesvos.

Sideritis sipylea is a protected species found only in the North-East Aegean islands. On Lesvos, it has long been part of the island’s natural heritage—thriving in rocky, high-altitude landscapes shaped by sun, stone, and sea air.

At Krinellia Organics, this rare endemic herb is at the core of our work. We cultivate Sideritis sipylea at 700 meters altitude, where the soil, elevation, and exposure mirror its natural habitat. The result is a plant that retains its full character, aromatic depth, and connection to place.

Following careful observation and ecological testing, we are now expanding cultivation to a second location within our Krinellia land near Kalloni Bay. This step allows us to better understand the plant’s adaptability to lower altitudes, while maintaining the same organic and responsible standards.

Why this herb matters to us:

  • Endemic to the North-East Aegean – Naturally occurring only in select island ecosystems

  • High-altitude cultivation (700m) – Respecting the plant’s original environment

  • Now expanding to lowland microclimates – Responsibly adapting to new terrain

  • Conservation through cultivation – Never wild-harvested, always grown with care

Every harvest of Sideritis sipylea tells a story of biodiversity, stewardship, and the quiet resilience of a plant deeply woven into the island’s ecological fabric.
